The rise of political, social, and religious extremism — along with growing polarization — has been amplified by the ironic isolation of social media algorithms. These algorithms reinforce our existing worldviews and narratives, no matter how far removed they may be from reality.

Context matters because the rich and powerful often thrive on the mass ignorance of society. This creates fertile ground for disinformation, manipulation, and conspiracy theories to flourish.

Too often, we stop at the headline. But to truly understand, we must ask deeper questions:

• Who said this?
• Why did they say it?
• When and where was it said?
• What might be the hidden motives behind the message?

These questions shed light on the forces shaping public opinion — and help us think critically about the messages we consume.

Most importantly, we must engage with and interrogate our own stories. By seeking clarity and context in how we view the world — and ourselves — we begin to grow in awareness.

When we’re willing to question why we think and act the way we do, we can stop reacting in unhelpful, negative ways. Instead, we can start responding — thoughtfully, intentionally, and with greater understanding.

In doing so, we bias both our present and our future toward more informed, constructive, and positive outcomes.
